Backstage: Injury Prevention & Management

Course Description
This course will introduce you to the world of backstage injury prevention and management of theatrical shows, concerts, and films. Hands-on labs consist of manual therapy skills, analyses of Broadway performers, and specialized taping techniques. Lectures include education on common dance injuries, the unique considerations of entertainment and performing arts medicine, dance/vocal/backstage terminology, and how to work with NEURO TOUR Physical Therapy backstage. This course is intended for physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and athletic trainers.

Course Objectives
By the completion of this course, participants will:

  1. Describe the roles of physical therapists and athletic trainers in performing arts medicine as presented in the course.
  2. Identify the demands associated with performing arts medicine.
  3. Recognize common injuries among various performing arts disciplines.
  4. Describe appropriate etiquette for treating backstage while utilizing adequate performing arts specific terminology.
  5. Conduct a movement analysis of a performance.  Discuss the associated risks and injury prevention measures.
  6. Learn manual therapy techniques that can be utilized when treating performing artists.
  7. Demonstrate manual therapy techniques for the muscles associated with vocalization.
  8. Learn, select, and perform taping techniques with modifications relevant for the performing artists.

Cancellation / Refund Policy
No refunds are permitted. Participants will receive a credit that can be used to reschedule to a new course within the same year. No money or credit will be issued for “no shows” or if a participant begins the course and is not able to complete it. NEURO TOUR Physical Therapy and host facilities are NOT responsible for reimbursement of incurred expenses.
